Irrigation pressure regulators are designed to limit the pressure in the irrigation system. Too much pressure will blow fittings off and can cause sprinkler nozzles to become too ‘misty’, reducing the evenness of coverage.
The pressure reducing regulator operates during the water flow, reducing the pressure of the water flow downstream. There are a range of operating pressures for the irrigation pressure regulators, so it important to choose the correct one for the pressure you wish to regulate. Inside the regulator is a spring to provide the negative force and there is a screw adjustment on the pressure regulator allows the pressure to be altered. The force of the spring will vary with the pressure it is designed to regulate.
Pressure regulators do need some flow to operate, if there is no flow then the pressure downstream will rise above the intended pressure. It is therefore recommended that the pressure regulator is installed after the solenoid valve or tap and that there is always a flow in the system that exceeds the rated minimum pressure on the regulator.
The 3/4″ irrigation pressure regulator is suppled with a female inlet and a male outlet, allowing it to be screwed onto a standard outside garden tap to provide pressure regulation for drip systems in the garden. The ‘Y’ arm can be unscrewed to facilitate threading it onto the tap.
