Low pressure pipe is used for irrigation systems where the pipe is laid on the surface of the bed and pressures are less than 4.0 bar. Uses include dripline and sprinklers on flower beds and borders, pipe headers on drip or trickle irrigation systems on nurseries and on-bed pipework in garden centres.
As well as reducing cost, the thinner, softer wall this pipe has a number of advantages. The pipe is more flexible than higher pressure pipe and as the wall is thin, it can be pinched with a small hole punch – allowing drippers or sprinkler take-off fittings to be added into the line.
Properties of low pressure irrigation pipe
Low-Density Polyethylene (LDPE) irrigation pipes are a vital component of modern horticulture and landscape irrigation facilitating efficient water distribution to crops and planting. LDPE, known for its flexibility and durability, offers several advantages in the field of irrigation. These pipes are lightweight, making installation and handling hassle-free. Their flexibility allows for easy manoeuvrability around obstacles, reducing installation complexity.
LDPE irrigation pipes are resistant to corrosion, chemicals, and UV radiation, ensuring a long lifespan even in harsh outdoor conditions. Their smooth interior surface minimizes friction, enhancing water flow and reducing energy consumption. Furthermore, LDPE pipes are cost-effective and environmentally friendly, as they are recyclable and contribute to water conservation efforts.
Fittings for low pressure irrigation pipe
Fittings for low pressure irrigation pipe include barbed fittings and pozilock fittings. Barbed fittings are low cost and produce a neat joint, with the fitting inside the pipe iteslf. Pozilock fittings are bulkier but are more resistant to coming off, making them ideal for harder to reach areas such as roof decks.
