Irrigation pipe is metric with pipe sizes starting at 20mm outside diameter. Irrigation installations before the early 1970’s may use imperial uPVC pipe and will have a class rating – class C and class D were the most common. History of PVC and uPVC Fittings
Traditionally rigid PVC pipe in irrigation has been referred to as uPVC, with the ‘u’ referring to the fact it was un-plasticised and differentiating it from flexible PVC which has plasticisers added to create flexibility. However, generally uPVC is now used to refer to products available for the double glazing industry, leading to many to refer to refer to the irrigation pipe as PVC irrigation pipe.
