A range of professional quality solenoid valves for use with irrigation systems and garden watering controllers. Two voltages of valve are used, 24v solenoid valves for use with mains powered controllers and 9v solenoid valves (also known as latching solenoid valves) for use with battery operated controllers.
What is a Solenoid Valve?
In irrigation solenoid valves are used as an electronic tap, opening and closing valves to water different areas. They are wired to an irrigation controller, which operates each valve in turn until the irrigation cycle is complete. Using valves a large irrigation system can be divided up into smaller zone. This reduces the pipe sizes and water flows needed to supply the irrigation system and also allows different run times and watering frequencies for different areas. For example the irrigation timer would operate the solenoid valve more frequently and for longer on a watering zone that is in the full sun compared to a watering zone in a shady area of the garden.
Generally, solenoids are located either on a manifold adjacent to the control panel, with the pipe running out to each watering zone, or the valves can be located in remote valve boxes. This suits irrigation systems on larger sites but does mean that low voltage signal cable needs to be laid at the same time as the water supply pipes to allow the irrigation controller to communicate with the solenoids.
