Solenoid valves are used in conjunction with irrigation controllers to automatically open and close irrigation valves. Valves are used to zone up the irrigation scheme into smaller areas, allowing different watering times and frequencies for sperate parts of the scheme. For example, lawns may be watered for a longer duration twice a week while baskets and containers will have many short but frequent irrigation cycles.

Hunter solenoid valves are either 9v latching valves, used with battery controllers; or 24v valves used on controllers with a mains water supply. Both valve types would be linked back to the irrigation controller using low voltage multi core signal cable.

The irrigation valves come in a variety of body styles and thread sizes. The most popular size is the 1″ solenoid with two 1″ BSPF female threads. Typically these are connected using a manifold pipe, creating a bank of solenoids either adjacent to the controller or in remote valve boxes located around the property.
