A few years ago, no one had ever heard of a green roof but now you see them all over the place. In fact, London wouldn’t look half as good from the air without them.
People are seeing the benefits of Greening and understanding that even small changes can have big effects. With energy costs ever rising, having a Green Roof can actually save money, in some cases 10% – 30% on fuel bills. In addition, they can extend the roof life, provide sound absorption and reduce storm water runoff. One of the biggest benefits is in creating a habitat for wildlife and increasing biodiversity.
Green Roofs have traditionally only been specified on larger scale projects such as high rise apartment blocks, but they are now increasingly available for smaller buildings, even garages and garden sheds.
Access Irrigation have been providing irrigation solutions for over 40 years and Green Roof irrigation in particular for over 20 years. In an unnatural environment with minimal soil depth and extra stresses of increased heat and evaporation, it is essential a Green Roof has a reliable and effective water supply. A water supply is needed rather than just relying upon rainwater especially, as it is not unusual even in this country, if there is a prolonged dry spell.
Using their experience Access have introduced a Domestic Green Roof Watering Package which gives customers everything they need to water a sedum type Green Roof. There are two packages available SGR25 covering 25m² flat and 50m² sloping roofs and SGR50 covering 50m² flat and 100m² roofs.
Compliant with current Water Regulations for private dwellings, packages contain a ‘DB’ type backflow prevention device.
Both packages include a quality Hunter controller, Permadrip pressure compensated dripline and all associated fittings. The larger package SGR50 includes a mains powered controller and wireless rain sensor.
Green roof watering packages contain full instructions, making installation a simple task and as the dripline is fitted on top of the green roof, retro fitting is also a viable option.
