Regular Maintenance is Essential
It is essential that your irrigation system is fully maintained at all times, to ensure that it always operates at maximum efficiency, so an Irrigation Mid-season Service is recommended. Regular maintenance of your irrigation system will also ensure that individual damaged components can be identified and replaced before further damage is caused to other parts of your system.
A Mid-season Service ensures that your system is professionally monitored & maintained
When Summer arrives, the weather can drastically change, as do the water requirements of your garden. During the Mid-season Service, usually conducted in July and August, we check all systems and components, make fine adjustments to the sprinkler arcs and throws, and re-set the panel for Summertime operation. So that you can sit back, enjoy the sun, and watch your garden flourish.
What does a Mid-season Service Involve?
Equipment Check
Our engineers follow a detailed checklist which covers every aspect of your irrigation system in a logical order. They begin at the start of your system – by checking the static water level in the tank and checking that the internal float switch within the tank has free travel and is positioned correctly. This is crucially important, as when operating properly, the float switch ensures that the tank has a constant supply of water, whilst also preventing it from overfilling if full. Our engineers will also check the pump and pressure vessel, monitoring their operation and status. They will then move on to check the solenoid valves (required to split the system into zones). They will clean the valve diaphragm if required – also checking for any damage. They will also re-tighten solenoid valve bodies and union fittings if required. Supply pipe and connection fittings within your system will also be re-tightened and re-fitted if required, as these may have loosened over time. Our engineers will also check any filters used within the system, by removing the internal element, and cleaning if required. They will then refit the element and secure the filter, also closing any drain points if fitted.
Electrical Check
An essential part of the Mid-season Service is to check the irrigation controller and its programming – as times may need to be adjusted due to weather changes. For example, if the weather has become much hotter and drier during Summer, your system may need to be reprogrammed to allow longer and/or more frequent watering times – as it’s essential that your system operates at the correct times and durations to provide efficient watering. Another advantage of the Mid-season Service is that our engineers will check for any visible drier or damper areas within the system – these areas indicating any minor changes required on the zone run times, therefore enabling watering levels to be adapted accordingly. This drier/damper check is particularly useful if your irrigation system has been established recently and you’re not entirely sure how long/frequent the watering durations should be, as it will allow changes to be made on a trial-and-error basis. Our engineers will also check that all electrical inputs and outputs on the controller are working correctly. They will also conduct electrical checks on the pump and pressure vessel to ensure that they are operating correctly. If your system uses a rain sensor, our engineers will clean the water entry point and check its electrical operation. They will also adjust its shut-off setting if necessary, which is again extremely useful if the weather has changed considerably in recent weeks. For example, if it has recently become hotter and drier, our engineers will adjust the setting so that more rainfall is required before the system stops operating – thus saving your garden from drying out. Conversely, if it has been raining more than usual, they will adjust the setting to ensure that the system shuts off after only a very small quantity of rainfall – therefore saving you water, whilst also preventing your garden from being overwatered.
Zone Check
Lastly, our engineers will thoroughly check every zone within your system – whether you are using popup sprinklers to water lawns, dripline to water borders, or individual drippers to water hanging baskets and patio pots. They will check the operation and security of all components involved, as well as checking for any damage – making replacements where necessary. Dripline spacing will also be checked and adjusted if necessary to ensure even watering.
