Introducing the benefits of a weather sensor
Having an automated irrigation system is fantastic, but the addition of a sophisticated weather sensor will take your irrigation system to the next level. We all know that living in the UK means experiencing all kinds of different weather within very short periods of time. Sometimes we’ll experience four seasons within a single day! It’s for this reason that including a weather sensor is so necessary. For example, if there was an unexpected spell of extremely hot, dry weather, normal watering would likely not be sufficient, and your much-loved plants and lawn would begin to suffer. Here’s where the weather sensor will come to the rescue – instantly registering the increased temperatures and immediately extending the watering times to ensure that your garden is watered more thoroughly than usual. Or, as another example, perhaps temperatures are not particularly hot, but dry, windy conditions emerge – causing your garden to dry out just as much as during hot weather – as windy conditions significantly increase evaporation rates. However, this time you may not even realise that your garden is drying out, as the temperature outside doesn’t feel particularly hot. So, this situation is potentially more dangerous, as you’d be unlikely to take steps to address this if you weren’t aware of the potential damage it was causing. Again, the weather sensor will address this before it becomes a problem, monitoring the increased wind rates and extending the watering times as a result. On the flipside of the same coin, if the weather unexpectedly becomes rainy (as we know can happen even in the middle of summer in the UK!) the weather sensor will immediately terminate the watering – therefore protecting your garden from being overwatered and saving you money!
We supply a variety of weather sensors to suit all budgets
Here at Access Irrigation, we supply several different weather sensors, ranging from the highly sophisticated Heron weather and wind station to a basic, simple rain sensor.
Our Heron Weather & Wind Station uses sophisticated temperature, rainfall and wind recording technology – with this technology then increasing, decreasing, or suspending the watering, depending on the conditions recorded. We also supply a Heron Weather Station without the Wind recording element for those who have a slightly smaller budget.
For those on a smaller budget we supply just a rain sensor for Heron controllers. These rain sensors allow the irrigation times to be automatically reduced, depending on the rainfall received over the last few days. The total rainfall over a one, two, three or even four-day period can be measured.
For those who only have a small garden, we supply a basic rain sensor which will suspend the watering during periods of rainfall. This can be set to shut the system off when receiving between 3mm to 25mm of rainfall – so allows flexibility regarding how much rainfall you are prepared to allow before your system stops.
